The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Management Transition Comes After Mixed Response
The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster initial reveal last autumn.
Recently, 2K president a key figure informed staff about this strategic move through an official communication, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had indicated the requirement for a clearer game identity.
Ismailer noted that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a renewed approach, aiming to satisfy player expectations.
A Pattern of Key Hires
This announcement echoes a comparable action taken by the publisher in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the complete text from the president's announcement:
Dear Team—
I know you all just finished your meeting - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative creators we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re eager for that partnership to continue.”
Through your commitment and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.
The player input from last autumn’s the game testing phase was revealing. It affirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had work to do. It revealed the necessity for a sharper brand.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the feedback to consideration and revamped Project ETHOS with a renewed direction - one that’s poised to deliver on its ambition to our audience.
The trust in this project strengthens every day. To further the incredible development you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce Ben Brinkman as the latest Lead of the team. After several months of talks, Ben officially joins us on the specified date.
His management and background in the PVP shooter genre is extensive, having spent the past decade and a half creating and leading some of the most popular franchises in gaming, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, Apex Legends.
I invite you all in receiving him in the coming days. We are all looking forward to continue seeing the development of the game in the time to follow.
The President
Background of the Incoming Leader
Brinkman presently serves in the role of executive producer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. Brinkman previously was employed at Treyarch and Activision in various development positions on the Call of Duty games, and, earlier in his career, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.
Title Information and Vision

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in real-time to match your preferred approach," the description reads. "Face the opponents with fresh skills, stakes, and obstacles that shift every session. Will you safely extract with your valuable rewards? Alternatively go big, put it on the line, and hope your team can achieve the highest spot? The decision is in your hands."
Project Ethos does not have an announced release date or platforms, but enthusiasts can anticipate more updates as development advances.
